To perform a rapid influenza test, our doctor may take a nasal or throat swab, perform a bronchial wash, or an aspirate or wash. Depending on which method would be most productive, our doctor will explain the procedure beforehand. Once this quick procedure is complete, the sample will be sent to a lab, where they will run various diagnostic tests. Depending on the tests, you could receive results in as little as 15 minutes.
Based on the test results, our doctor can determine if you have the influenza A or B virus. This will help us know which vaccine or additional treatment you may need. Should you require any additional care, our doctor will provide additional instructions during your appointment.
