If you have had recent surgery or sustained an injury that has resulted in sutures (stitches), Dr. John Abroon can properly remove your sutures when the time is right. Many people dread having their sutures removed, but at our practice, our doctor and team are experienced and careful to ensure that you remain comfortable.
Sutures, or stitches, are used to close wounds in the skin by “sewing” the skin together. This helps the skin to heal naturally when it otherwise may not have come together. Once your sutures have had enough time to allow your skin to properly heal, our doctor can remove them. During the removal procedure, our team will begin by cleaning the area and removing any encrusted blood or loosened scar tissue. Our doctor will then use forceps and a small blade to pick up the knot at the end of each suture and cut it. Forceps may also be used to remove the loosened sutures from the skin. These steps are repeated for each suture until all of them have been removed.
The process of removing sutures is quite painless; however, you may feel a slight pull as each suture is removed. After each suture is out, the wound is cleaned again, and our doctor will place adhesive strips over the area to help the wound continue to heal.
